Bluepoint Games Hiring for New Third-Person Melee Action Game
PlayStation first-party studio Bluepoint Games is reportedly working on a new third-person melee action game, according to a recently posted job listing that sheds light on the developer’s next project.
Job Listing Hints at Combat-Focused Gameplay
As first spotted by Tech4Gamers, Bluepoint Games has posted an opening for a Senior Combat Designer, revealing key details about the studio’s upcoming title. The listing specifies that the ideal candidate should have a “solid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for 3rd-person melee action experiences” and “at least five years of professional experience in combat design.”
The role involves creating high-level character design concepts, defining combat flow plans, and developing corresponding systems from concept to implementation. The designer will also be tasked with tuning gameplay balance, refining AI behavior, and optimizing character controls — all essential components for an action-heavy game.
Follows Cancellation of Bluepoint’s Reported Live Service Project
Earlier this year, reports surfaced that both Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio (developers of Days Gone) had cancelled live service projects in development. Rumors suggested that Bluepoint’s scrapped title might have been a live service God of War spin-off, though Sony never officially confirmed those details.
This latest job listing suggests that the studio has now pivoted toward developing a traditional, narrative-driven action game, aligning more closely with its acclaimed single-player legacy.
Bluepoint’s Legacy in PlayStation Development
Bluepoint Games is best known for its critically acclaimed remakes and remasters, including Demon’s Souls (2020) for PlayStation 5 and Shadow of the Colossus (2018) for PlayStation 4. The studio also supported development on God of War: Ragnarok in 2022, further strengthening its ties with Sony’s Santa Monica Studio.
While Bluepoint has yet to officially announce its next game, this job listing strongly hints that the developer’s next project will be a melee combat-focused, third-person action experience, potentially its first original IP since joining PlayStation Studios in 2021.
