GTA 6 - What We Know So Far
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch worldwide on May 26, 2026, following a delay from its previously expected 2025 release window. The developer says the additional time will ensure that the long-awaited sequel delivers the level of quality fans have come to expect.
“We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game,” Rockstar said in its official announcement.
The delay hasn’t dampened excitement. GTA 6 remains one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, and fans continue to pore over every frame of the trailers, map details, and character teases ahead of launch.
Return to Vice City
Set in the state of Leonida, Grand Theft Auto 6 takes players back to the iconic Vice City, reimagined for a modern era. Rockstar describes it as the studio’s “biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet,” featuring a mix of urban streets, tropical islands, swamplands, and industrial zones.
Players will explore a range of diverse locations, including:
- Vice City – A neon-soaked metropolis filled with nightlife and danger.
- Leonida Keys – A tropical island chain inspired by the Florida Keys.
- Ambrosia – A gritty industrial area home to biker gangs.
- Mount Kalaga National Park – A lush wilderness filled with wildlife.
- Grassrivers – Swampy lowlands that expand the map’s scale even further.
New Faces, New Story
The story centers on two protagonists — Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval — marking the first time a GTA game features a female lead character.
Lucia, a former inmate from Liberty City, seeks a new life in Leonida alongside Jason, a streetwise smuggler. Together, the pair navigate crime, trust, and survival in what Rockstar calls “the darkest side of the sunniest place in America.”
The duo’s relationship draws heavy inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde, setting the tone for a high-stakes narrative filled with betrayal and ambition.

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will not release on PS4 or Xbox One, making it a current-gen exclusive. A PC version is expected later, following Rockstar’s usual release pattern.
Trailers and Visuals
Two official trailers have been released so far:
- Trailer 1 (December 2024): The first look at Vice City’s vibrant world and its dual protagonists.

The trailers showcase Rockstar’s trademark cinematic flair, with visuals that push realism and scale to new heights.
Development and Delay
Development on GTA 6 was first confirmed in February 2022, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick calling it a “groundbreaking entertainment experience.”
The delay into 2026 follows Rockstar’s decision to allocate more time for polish and optimization. Sources indicate that the entire team has returned to full in-office work as production nears its final stages.
Price and Expectations
While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed official pricing, analysts predict GTA 6 could debut at $80–$100 USD, citing record-breaking development costs and its sheer scope. Take-Two has hinted that the goal is to “vastly over-deliver on value.”
The Road to Launch
It’s been more than a decade since GTA 5 redefined open-world gaming, and expectations for its successor couldn’t be higher. From its dual protagonists to its massive, detailed map, Grand Theft Auto 6 looks set to redefine the genre once again — and possibly deliver the biggest game launch in history when it finally hits consoles in May 2026.
