Hackers Claim to Have Breached Nintendo, Leak Alleged Internal Files

A hacking group is claiming to have breached Nintendo’s internal systems, allegedly stealing confidential data and development materials from the Japanese gaming giant.

The unverified claim surfaced online earlier this week, with a screenshot circulating that appears to show a list of folders labelled “manuals,” “admin,” and “dev assets.” While the authenticity of the leak has not been confirmed, the group behind it previously claimed responsibility for a high-profile hack on Red Hat’s GitHub repositories last month.

What We Know So Far

The report first gained traction via Hackmanac, an X (formerly Twitter) account known for tracking verified cyberattacks. The account posted an image allegedly shared by the hackers, accompanied by the message:

“Who said we did not have Nintendo topic files?”

At the time of writing, Nintendo has not issued a public statement regarding the alleged breach. It remains unclear whether any customer data has been accessed or compromised as part of the incident.

Broader Cybersecurity Concerns

The claim comes amid a rise in reported attacks on major tech and gaming companies. Just last week, Discord confirmed that a third-party customer support provider had been breached, exposing some user data — including government-issued IDs used for account verification.

Cybersecurity analysts note that such incidents highlight growing vulnerabilities in third-party and cloud-based infrastructure across the tech industry.

Nintendo’s Track Record With Leaks

Nintendo has faced major data leaks in the past — most notably the so-called “Gigaleak” in 2020, which exposed early source code, prototypes, and internal documents from legacy consoles and games.

While it’s unclear if the current claim is legitimate, cybersecurity experts urge caution, noting that false breach claims are becoming more common as groups seek notoriety or ransom leverage.
